Holistic Healing, Transpersonal Psychology and Tiktok

Have you ever considered how your emotional and spiritual wellbeing are interconnected? Do you find yourself wanting to take a holistic approach to your personal growth but struggling to know where to start? If so, my recent interview on the Attune + Align Podcast may be just the thing you need to listen to. In this episode, titled ‘Living With an Undefended Heart’, I speak with host Marisa LaValette about everything from transpersonal psychology to using TikTok as a tool for healing your inner perfectionist. I also open up about my own spiritual awakening, my journey to becoming a therapist, and the daily practice of living with an undefended heart. So grab a cup of tea, get cozy, and join me for an engaging conversation about the power of holistic healing.

Traditional Psychotherapy vs Holistic Psychotherapy

As the episode kicks off, Marisa asks me if I have a word or mantra that is guiding my life right now and I share that I'm currently practicing living with an undefended heart! This practice is all about learning to let love in, even when it feels scary or vulnerable. From there, we dive into a discussion about transpersonal psychology, a field that I’ve been passionate about since I was 19 years old. I explain that while traditional psychology typically focuses on helping people function within society, transpersonal psychology takes a more holistic approach, incorporating elements of spirituality and honoring our interconnectedness.

Healing with the Mind-Body-Spirit

One of the major themes that comes up throughout the episode is the mind-body-spirit connection. I share with Marisa how I’ve come to believe that all three of these areas need to be in alignment in order for true healing to take place. We discuss the role that yoga has played in my own spiritual awakening, and how it can be a powerful tool for reconnecting with both our bodies and our higher self. I also share about my “rock polisher moment,” which was the catalyst for my own spiritual transformation. This experience taught me that the divine can be found anywhere, even in the midst of the chaos and noise of a bustling city.

Human Design, the Yoga Sutras and Polyvagal Theory

Later in the episode, we get into some more practical tips for incorporating holistic healing practices into your life. I share about how I use tools like Human Design, wisdom from the Yoga Sutras and applied Polyvagal Theory with my clients, tailoring each session to their unique needs and personality types. I also talk about my recommended reading list (available here!), as well as my book, The First 90 Days After Birth, which is designed to help new moms navigate the challenges of the postpartum period.

What Does a Holistic Therapist Have to Say About New Year’s Resolutions?

Finally, we wrap up the episode by talking about New Year’s resolutions. I share with Marisa my belief that resolutions can be a powerful tool for growth and change, but only if we approach them from a place of self-compassion and kindness. Instead of trying to force ourselves into being “perfect,” I suggest using an accountability buddy and a template to track progress and celebrate small victories along the way. You can download that template for yourself right here:

Healing And Change Is Possible

I truly believe that healing and change is always possible, but it requires us to approach ourselves and our struggles with compassion, love and curiosity.

I had so much fun being a guest on the Attune + Align Podcast. It was a wonderful opportunity to dive deeper into some of the topics that I’m most passionate about. From transpersonal psychology to the mind-body-spirit connection, we covered a lot of ground in just one hour. I hope that listening to this episode leaves you feeling inspired and empowered to take a holistic approach to your own personal growth.
