Kim Burris, MFT. Holistic Psychotherapy
in El Dorado Hills + Online

Hi there!
I’m Kim Burris, a licensed holistic psychotherapist (LMFT #98927) as well as a yoga, meditation, and mindfulness teacher.
I am the founder of The Holistic Counseling Center and received my clinical education and training from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I have lived and practiced at the intersection of psychology and spirituality for over 20 years.
Integrating the depth of western psychology with the heart and soul of eastern mysticism, I support individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, and motherhood.
As a mama to two young boys, I believe that motherhood is a spiritual practice, and is passionate about helping mamas find new ways of being in the world with less stress and more joy.
I offer evidence-based treatment with a heart-centered approach that honors the mind, body, and spirit connection. Using eastern wisdom practices along with practical tools and profound insights, I help clients unravel the root cause of their suffering, and to live from the heart of embodied wisdom.
I believe that being human is a practice and that healing and change is always possible.
Please take a look around and reach out with any questions. I offer complimentary 15 minute phone consultations so we can have a chat and get to know each other a bit and discuss working together. You can call/text met at 916.467.9539.
About Me
I have been exploring the interweaving of psychology and spirituality for over 20 years and am continually transformed and humbled by the process.
I walked many paths before returning to my first love, the intersection of psychology and spirituality. Since I was a young child pondering the size of the universe and marveling at the stars, I have been fascinated with the human experience. Becoming a therapist has been a catalyst for my own self-transformation and the practice allows me the opportunity to walk alongside others who are walking this path of self-care and growth. The path of love.
The therapeutic process continues to offer me an opportunity to practice being human because the more I know and understand myself the more present I can be with others as we sit together in confusion, pain, joy and celebration. I am honored to witness my clients weaving together the pieces of their lives, bearing witness to such beautiful healing, transformation and discovery.
Background
I received my undergraduate education from the University of Southern California (USC) where I studied religion and psychology and discovered the world of transpersonal psychology. It was at this time I knew I wanted to pursue my masters degree and become a therapist. I also was introduced to the study and practice of yoga which has been a continuous presence and guiding force in my life ever since. I also knew I had a lot of life to live and needed time to discover more about myself before serving others. I pursued a career in music, living in Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco. I also worked in the corporate world for many years as a business consultant in the technology industry.
After years of living in major cities and exploring many of the nooks and crannies in my own psyche I knew it was time to pursue my dream of being a therapist and began my studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco where I received my Masters’s Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology.
Motherhood
Soon after graduating, I had my first child which altered everything in my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual life. I also felt the great void in our culture for celebrating and supporting moms. I struggled so much to find community and process the immense changes motherhood brings. After my son was born I expanded my therapy practice and started offering support groups for pregnant and new moms. After my second son was born I pursued advanced training in supporting and advocating for Maternal Mental Health as well as the assessment and treating of perinatal mood disorders through Postpartum Support International and 2020 Mom.
I am passionate about offering holistic therapy and counseling to support moms looking for a sacred space to integrate and process their experiences throughout pregnancy and motherhood as well as moms coping with mood disorders such as postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety.
