Connect with Your Intuition To Support your Mental Health

Intuition And your Mental Health

Do you often find yourself caught in the cycle of overthinking? Analyzing every decision, ending the day exhausted and doubting yourself? Of course you want to consider all the facts and logical outcomes of a situation before making a decision, that’s what your ego mind is designed for! But there’s also a deeper, more subtle wisdom you have access to: your intuition.

Intuition is an instinctive understanding of something without the need for conscious reasoning. It’s the feeling you get when you ‘just know’. Call it your gut, your spidey senses, or being guided by Source, this is your inner wisdom in action!

In a world that values moving quickly, and being logical over emotional, developing your intuition skills can often be devalued, or even completely ignored. The thing is, cultivating your intuition is a powerful way to support your mental health healing journey!

Keep reading to discover practical tips and strategies for nurturing your intuition and enhancing your mental health.

Why Intuition Matters On Your Healing Journey

The journey to self-awareness and personal growth often begins with developing a relationship with the still small voice that lies within – your intuition. Cultivating your intuition is not only a valuable tool for decision making but also a powerful tool for maintaining good mental health.

Your intuition can provide unique insights and perspectives that your rational mind may not be able to grasp. By tapping into this innate inner wisdom, you can gain insights into your thoughts, feelings, and actions, receive guidance on important decisions, cope with stress and anxiety, and build a greater sense of self-trust.

When you access your intuition, and tune into your inner wisdom, you are connecting to Source and your Higher Self. It’s from this place that soul led decisions can be made, and insights can be gleaned that serve your whole self, and your greatest lessons, not just what feels comfortable or rational at the time.

When you are connected to your Self in this intimate way, you support your healing journey and provide a foundation of safety and security for your healing journey.

Think of it this way: life is hard, and can be overwhelming and scary at times. When you have a relationship with your intuition, you always have a safe place to turn for guidance and support. Yes of course you can still rely on others for connection and support, but knowing you can trust yourself is invaluable.

I believe that taking small steps every day to connect with your intuition will truly support you in deepening a relationship with your Highest Self, and ultimately support your growth. Ready for some tips? Let’s do this!

Five Practices to Connect with Your Intuition For Mental Wellness

If you're ready to get started with a daily practice to connect with your intuition in support of your healing journey, here are five practices you can try. Remember consistency and practice is the key to change! One practice won’t change your nervous system overnight, but daily or weekly practice over time will.

  1. Take Yourself on a Date: Yes, you heard it right! Spend time getting to know yourself, your likes, dislikes, desires, and fears. This self-date is a beautiful opportunity to explore and understand your deepest self better. Need some inspiration? Go grab a coffee or dinner with yourself and bring a journal; practice just being with yourself and not looking at your phone.

  2. Set Regular Reminders: Set an alarm on your phone to go off every hour with the question, 'What do I need right now?' This simple reminder can prompt you to take a moment and listen to your needs and feelings. If every hour feels overwhelming, try asking this question when you wake up and right before you get ready for bed. Try to stay curious, the answer might surprise you!

  3. Scan and Breathe: Make it a practice to scan your body and breathe into the parts that feel stuck, numb, or inaccessible. This practice helps you become more attuned to your body's subtle signals, a key aspect of harnessing your intuition. Feeling numb or unable to access your body? It’s totally normal, try checking in daily with your body and see if it starts speaking to you. You can always work with a spiritual therapist who works somatically (Hi! 👋🏻) to help support you with this process as well!

  4. Use Your Voice: Sing or make any sound to open up the throat and get energy moving into your heart. It may feel silly, but these sounds can help you release blocked energy and emotions. And yes, screaming in your car counts.

  5. Try Earthing: Go outside barefoot and place your feet on the earth for five minutes while you breathe. This grounding practice can help you feel more connected to nature and your intuition. Too cold? Even looking at nature (IRL or a photo) can stimulate the same neurochemical reactions as being outside.

So excited to be on this journey with you, and I really hope you try out some of these practices and go deep with yourself.
